Party on the Blog II: Movie Fest

I spent the night at my Bestest Friends house & we watched a couple movies. I'm not really great at movie reviews, but I'll try to keep them short & sweet & try not to give too much away. What movies have you girls seen lately?
Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day: If you haven't seen either of the movies I suggest you rent or buy them. It's about two brothers who go on a killing spree. They only kill the bad guys. In this one the boys get framed for killing a priest. Being good Catholic boys they are offended & go back to Boston. We learn how their Dad got started in his killing & how & why he went to prison.
Atonment: Good drama/romance film. Two lovers are torn apart because of a crime that he didn't commit, but was blamed for. The girl who accused him realized too late that it wasn't him & so she writes Atonment as her last book to make up for the all wrong she did them.
Precious: I cried. I did. It's so sad to know that people really do live like that. Her Mom beat her & her Dad raped her. Got her pregnant not once, but twice. Her Mom blamed her for taking her man & making him leave. Her Dad dies & so her Mom goes to her & tells her that he was HIV positive. So she gets tested & she has it too. It's a really sad movie. I'm tearing up while I'm writing this. It is a must see.
The Jane Austen Book Club: Love this movie. Of course I love Jane Austen. It's filled with drama & romance. Twists & turns. It's a great movie. I don't wanna say too much about it because I may give away the entire movie. It's another must see.

  1. @Mel This past week, I saw Blindside, Precious, and 2012! All really good movies!

Sandra was amazing in the Blindside...as all the awards shows announced! And Michael Ohre's story is truly inspiring!

Precious tore me apart! It made me cry, but it also made me mad...I can't stand the fact that this happens in the world. Terrible. Sapphire is an extremely talented writer; her words are poignant, true, and profound. Amazing story.

2012...I have to admit, it scared me a little. I don't want to be living these next two years looking over my shoulder, but it made me feel like that while I was watching it! And John Cusack is an amazing actor!

@from first blog Alright, ladies! Move the party over here!!! No killing, I'm on duty!

  3. I went to a really small premiere of Kick-Ass a few weeks back, I totally love this film and would recommend it to anyone that likes dark comedies and I don't think it really matters if you aren't crazy about comic books either. The main character (Aaron Johnson) is pretty easy on the eye too :)
I reviewed Shutter Island (badly) on my blog, but it is a must see; it's tense and brilliantly played out. The ending and twists and turns are really suprising.
@Kim @Nicole I really want to see Sapphire! I hope it gets a little re-release in the UK!

  4. @jo Shutter Island looks good! I want to see that!

...p.s. Hope you don't mind, but I looked at your profile...and Wayne has a blog!!!! :D I didn't know that! I follow him on Youtube, but a blog too!

  5. @Nicole...haha yeah sometimes wayne actually sells his unwanted make up on his blog so it's a good idea to follow his blog! I love his videos too, he's totally honest and straight forward about whether a product is totally rubbish!

  8. I saw Clash of the Titans this weekend. I was a little disappointed probably because liked the first one (regardless of how cheesy the special effects were).

At this point the onlyh other movies I see are kids movies...Alvin and the Chipmunks the Sequel...I give it one thumb up! princess and the frog...two thumbs up!

Myabe i will attempt to watch more adult oriented films in the near future. Wait does that sound like I am going to watch some porn. Hot tub time machine is next on my list. Anyone have a review for that one?

  9. @Buckeye Gal Have you seen UP??? ;D That movie was so good!!! It made me cry, and smile...but really, it made me cry within the first five minutes!!! ;D

  10. @Nicole: Saw UP and loved it! It is so sad...I can't remeber the lst grown up movie I saw at the theater...or for that matter at home!

  11. @Kim...GREAT profile picture!! LMAO!!! So I'm thinking I read on the other party blog entry that someone said age 35 and above is considered a cougar? Since when?!!? haha! I always thought it was 40 and was hoping so because I thought I had 3 months yet till the backwards countdown starts!! Guess I should start now since it's 35 and not 40!?!?

@Buckeye Gal, I hear ya on the kid movie front, that's all I watch as well, with 3 kids (9, 5, and 3) I haven't seen a movie that wasn't kid related in I don't know how long.

That's why I enjoy this blog and Aksel's blog so much, everyone is so nice and funny...it takes me away for a bit eventhough I don't get on here till after everyone else has gone :( Later at night is the only time I get some peace and quiet.

@everyone...thanks for the movie reviews, hopefully soon I'll get to check out some of the 'grown up' movies mentioned above.

    Goodnight!! xoxo

  12. Aloha all!

@Nicole...yep. Filipino/Tagalog. I'll get Ceci over here so the Euros don't get too upset...then again, maybe I'll stay over there and insert "Aksel" every few words so I can fake a conversation on topic (haha).

I watched "How to Train your Dragon" Fun movie and recommended if just to remind you how Aksel's ancestors had really good PR people even back then...and I'll let you decide which Viking is Aksel.

Don't forget to watch Iron Man II when it comes out!

  13. Hello Ladies

Last night I couldn't post my blog. Your comments are so funny, I enjoyed them all the time, I could't stop laughing. You made not only my day - you made my whole week. You all are just wonderful ladies.

Thanks Mel for having this great idea.

    Greetings and have nice day.

    Nicoletta

  14. Kristen - I also thought "cougar" didn't start until age 40, but I looked it up on urban dictionary (because it's so reliable, lol) and it said 35! So, it's official...Meow! Maybe we should count backwards by two's for a couple of years!

The last adult movie I watched was The Blind Side. Awesome movie! I also watch more kids stuff than anything. To let you all know just how pathetic I am, the last time I went to a movie theater was to see the movie Signs. Yes, that was in 2002, lol. When my son can sit still long enough to go to a theater we'll go see a kid movie. I get wild like that. Hold me back!!! :-p

    Hi Nicoletta! *waves*

  16. hi over there. it´s so much traffic in here.. wow.

just saw juliet and julia last week.. it´s ok.. but never go and watch this movie when you´re hungry! Bad idea!

Taking woodstock: i had no jack or jim around. that would kick ass. ;-)

remember me: bad end! boring story (alltogether) but some funny stuff and a lovely big brother!! :-)

blind side: let´s say it´s ok. but i´ll never understand why some ppl. get oscars for such a stuff.

inglorious basterds: if you haven´t seen yet (not just another nazi movie) Waltz really deserve that oscar. He rocked!

2 weeks ago i watched hangover.. WOOOOOOW you have to see it. brilliant...

which movie i just watch over and over: Walk the line. i love johnny cash!

  17. @Teekanne Waltz was amazing in that movie! Absolutely amazing! I hated his character...he made me so mad...but when you hate a character in a movie, you know that the actor is doing a great job!

Welcome Nicoletta!!! The party's open to everyone! ;D

Kim in WA and Kristen~PA Kid movies are good too! Especially now that more 'deep' messages are being included in them! lol ;D

@Brenda in Hawaii lol You definitely should!!! Just write his name in the most random places...get them going!!! ;P I knew it was Filipino...it took me a while to figure it out because I could tell a few words (but I knew I didn't know the language ;P) I did google some words though! haha ;P

I want to see "How to train your dragon" Looks like a really good movie...although, I don't know if the 3-D is worth it! Interestingly enough, none of the actors are Norwegian!!! haha ;D
