  1. Hey girls!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving (my American friends) I know that y'all in Europe/Asia do not celebrate our Thanksgiving Day but it is a wonderful time to celebrate w/ family and friends and eat lots of yummy food and give thanks for all the wonderful things we have. It was nice having a 4 day weekend :)

I have 3 more work days till I am off on vacation to Florida...I'm really excited. :)

I'm so happy right now to be watching the Mens Super G race LIVE from Lake Louise...I love having the Universal Sports channel. Aksel is starting 19th, they are at #10 now...I'm really excited for him, the course looks great!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well...let me know if you want me to tell you how Aksel did...I don't want to spoil the results for anyone.

The mustache does make him look like a porn star, definitely Zorro-like! haha!

I just called the Romanian restaurant and asked about my cabbage. There are two Romanian restaurants in Tokyo. The one " Restaurant Romania " which you informed me and the other " DARIE " which I once visited and thought it is closed, but I found out it is open. The line was busy with " Restaurant Romania " but I could talk with the person in " DARIE ". ( Is that a name of someone famous ? ) She is so kind and she told me my cabbage stayed in the brine a little too long. I remember you told me you felt it was already ready and I thought about the timeing then, but it takes some hours to cook sarmale and that's why I waited for sunday when I have much time. And she also said the cabbage in Romania and in Japan is the same, so I think I can try it again. " DARIE " is not far from my house. 5 minutes walk to the U-Bahn station, 14 minutes in U-Bahn, and 5 minutes walk. So I think I visit there next Saturday.

dana, I really thank you for many good advices !
Hope you have a great start of the new week, dana ! and thanks again for shout and scream !

    Hi, kristen !
I'd be pleased if you let us know how Aksel looked and what the commemtator of Universal Sports spoke about him before you leave for Key West, kristen ! You may not believe it, but there are no articles about the alpine ski in Japanese newspaper.
Have a nice new week both on work and on vacation !

Your shoulder matter comes first, Mel. sounds a bit serious and I worry about it so much.

Let Brandon wait for a while, but you talk with him over your shoulder related things. let him wait means, I truly think he wants to talk more with you, Mel.

Take good care of you, and please tell us the shoulder condition after you saw your doctor.
crossing my fingers for you, Mel !

Thanks for the link, but it refused me. I could see the site, but it seems the video is available for watching only in Switzerland.
I think Internet is stil not ripe for everyone.
But it's OK, because it is developing at high speed, I hope so.

Nicoletta, my room is on the 3rd floor of our house. We call Erdgeschoss the 1st floor, so it might be the 2nd floor in Zurich. And from the window, I can see shining red leaves of the cherry blossom tree in our entrance. shining, yes, it's sunny day today in Tokyo. I type this text while watching it. As I explain to dana, the ginkgo tree is the tree of Tokyo, and the cherry blossom is the flower of my country. and in Japan, the office and the school start the new year in April about when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

Hope you have a nice week in beautiful white, Nicoletta ! from 3-colors leaves ( yellow, red, and green ), sunshine to you !

Sorry for you, that the video did not work. No idea, if it is not allowed?

Hope next cooking session with the Romanian cabbage will be perfect for you. For me you are already on the 4th place, next time podium for sure. And of course you are the best Cooking Girl from Tokyo.

As you already know, it was not Aksels day yesterday. Yesterday was more the day of the Swiss. I wonder what they heave eaten for lunch for beeing so good, just kidding.

I presume, good luck and bad luck are very close in the skis sport. And like Aksel said, the material as well as the technic must always be perfecly adjusted to race/snow conditions.

And even Roger Federer won against his rival Rafael Nadal, that was great too.

Today it is again snowing in Zurich, big snow flakes. Snow is still a bit wet, but nice to look at. Around -1 until 2 degrees, a bit warmer.

    Have a wonderful evening, Ekaterina.

  9. Hello to All! I'm glad ALS has a hat on in the Movember picture. The short hair and the moustache didn't go together. His smirk is fantastic. And I agree with whoever said the lamp needs to go...

I survived Thanksgiving and all my company and leftover food is gone. We had a wonderful time. Need to start decorating for Christmas.

@Dana Sis, I definately could have used your help in the kitchen. I would have been happy to have you sitting at our table. Love your "real name."

@Ekaterina Did you have to throw out your cabbage and start over? Was it over processed? Cooking is a learning curve I'm sure, and next time it will be perfect. We had a lot of fun with you while you were learning. Keep up the good work...try again!

@Corinna Congrats on the tickets! You have a great Dad. I think your whole family is wonderful. Can't wait to see more pictures. I need to go back and look at your Bavarian photo's when I have more time. Hope you are well!

@AM Get better soon. We miss you!

@Mel Hope you survived Black Friday, and are able to sleep soon. I didn't shop at all this weekend. But my sister went to Black Friday at Walmart in Columbus and said it was a zoo. Crazy.

Have a great week everyone! Keep up the good work!

  11. @Ekaterina Hello!! The Universal Sports commentators were very surprised at Aksel's finish in the Super G. The whole time he was skiing they commented on how strong of a skier he is and that he is the 'one to beat' in the Super G. They commented on how well he attacked the top of the course but lost a lot of speed from mid-course through the finish. They really can not say enough about him, always mentioning how he is such a great athlete and that he always has a smile on his face. :) I am bummed that I won't get to see the races this weekend but will record them so I can watch when I get back from Key West.

I wish you all a good week! Nice "talking" with you Ekaterina!! :)

    *hugs*

  14. @dana.
Thanks, dana ! Today's earthquake which hit the area in Tokyo was not the serious one. The seismic intensity was 3 which belongs to the weak group in our standard about the earthquake. But the Richter Scale was 6,9. We cannot say it is very weak. The focus of the earthquake this time was 480km depth under the sea and it is very far from Japanese island. Anyhow I didn't even notice it, because I was in the train when it happened. Actually I knew it by your text here, dana !

My country had several fatal earthquakes in the past, and we have the weak ones the seismic intensity from 1 - 3 very very often, and we take it quite normal. The seismic intensity 4 comes often and 5 comes sometimes. I have not experienced 6 which I'm sorry to say it can be disaster and 7 is catastrophe. The Richter Scale is also important unit to talk about the earthquake. The Richter scale is the unit of the energy of the earthquake. If the Richter Scale is 8 - 9, it is sadly historical one. Of course it depend on where the focus is located, the Richter Scale below 6 is said to be safe. and, dana, you may be aware of something irregular in my explanation and you're right. In the Richter Scale , 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - ......is not the same as in normal 1-2-3-4- ..... It is like 1 - 60 - 200 - 1200 - 23000 - much bigger and bigger, and very irregular. I don't know the actual increase, but much bigger and bigger irregularly. It is also same in the seismic intensity. That's why we in Tokyo stay safely today with the seismic intensity 3 and the Richter Scale 6,9.

dana, there is an old famous phrase in Japan which is something like a proverb. It says there are the 4 biggest fear. They are * Earthquake * , * Thunder * , * Fire *, and * Dad *. As for * Thunder * it is almost disappearing thanks to the lightning rod. And nowdays there remains only 2. only 2 ? which one of the rest of 3 dropped ? .... * Dad * ...
It is very the reality in Japan. ...;-))) !!!

Let's enjoy Beaver Creek , dana, and I'd like to ask you to shout and scream this weekend, too !

Have a happy afternoon & evening, dana ! Hugs !

Yes, I think it was over processed. But the taste of the cabbage was very delicious !
It was my first experience to have some food fermented and I find it so interesting. After I go to the Romanian restaurant and talk with people there this weekend, I start it again.

btw, Giffy, may I ask you to invite me to your mother's 2nd wedding ? so that I can see both you and dana at the same time ! ... ;-))) !

Have a great time, Giffy ! Hugs !

Thank you for letting me know of what the commentator talked about Aksel ! I enjoyed reading your text very much, Kristen !
I think Aksel is loved by anybody. His character is a gift.
I understood why Aksel ran slow in the SG on last Sunday after reading ALS and your text. I suppose it is diffcult to judge and decide which set up is the best in the SG.

Beaver Creek looks like his garden, or Aksel thinks it is his.

WIshing you have a great vacation in Key West, Kristen ! It looks like your garden along the sea ! Hugs !

Very funny reading how you drove you car ! , corinna ! and yes, the small roads are often just a short-cut. but, even if they are not cleared by snow plow !? It's a little adventure to go to work, corinna ! driving on the snow ! I think the winter tires work so well and your technique with the steering wheel is just exellent ! I'd like to show it to the car dealer who says the girls cannot park the car easily !

Have a nice time, and I really hope your voice becomes OK, corinna ! Hugs !

last night ( Tokyo time ), I posted some comment to you, but it is disappear. ..... That's the pc which seems to want to educate me and I know I need education ! ... ;-)))))

Nicoletta, I'd like to express first my congrats to racers from Switzerland ! 5 out of the top 10 are Swiss on last Sunday !

btw, the book I often talk about is very interesting. It is the book not only about WWII, but also about some hundreds years of Eidgenossenschaft. As you see, my country is the island nation, so the fishes come first, and then soldiers, however it has been changing. I think I foreign person needs to know about the whole history of switzerland to understand general Guisan correctly. So this book is just helpful and fun reading.

Big snowflakes again today in Zurich ? Nicoletta ? The snowflakes are really pretty. Usually in late January or in February we have some snowflakes, but only for some minutes or sometimes for a few hours. In Tokyo we have the lowest temperature in the final week of January. It is statistical fact.

Hope you have a wonderful first day of Christmas month, Nicoletta ! here it is already in December, just 6 minutes ! 00:06 or 24:06 now. So I'll check fis site, take a bath, and go to sleep. Good night ! Hugs !

I'm glad you are fine! Japan is famous on its "traditional" earthquakes! I know about Richter scale, we had a few serious earthquakes in our recent history, the worst, 7,4 on Richter scale, on 4th March 1977! Then in '86, in '90, '99... The latest, few months ago it was weaker, just about 4-5. But I felt it!

Ekaterina, today we celebrate St. Andrew's day! Last night I put some wheat in a bowl with a little water and I let it grow till the Christmas. This is a sign of wealth and it says it brings luck in our houses! When we have guests on Christmas day, we put the wheat on the table when we eat! It's a very usual decoration, beside fir twigs! Of course last night I hung garlic at the windows and I lit candles to protect us from bad spirits! LOL

I found something about DARIE restaurant on the internet but, just like you, I thought is closed! I know just one famous Darie, it's the main character on the novel Barefoot by Zaharia Stancu!

Hope I'm not wrong, but I understood Aksel has a training race today, 20:30 CET. We can watch what he does there on FIS site here:

    http://www.fis-ski.com/de/disciplines/live-timing/alpineskiing.html

Just click on "live",I know it will be too late for you, Ekaterina!
But on the weekend I'll think of you and I'll scream out loud! Be sure!:-))

Good night, sleep well and have a happy Wednesday! Hugs!

  20. Sorry I haven't been on here for the past few days. This weekend has been horrible for me. They said Saturday that I wasn't doing my job. Which I was. So they gave me a D-day, that's when you have to think about why you should keep your job. They argued with me & all 3 managers called me a liar. Not right out, but they all said I know for a fact that you weren't doing your job & that your weren't speaking to the customers. They made me cry & I never cry. I tried to get my doctor to take me off work because they are harrassing me & he said he couldn't because of me being on workers comp. They won't even let me see the video. I'm calling my doctor again tomorrow & getting an appointment to see him in person & explain everything to him. Then I'm calling my lawyer & seeing if there is anything I can do to get them off my back. I finally got some different meds so I can sleep now. They already fired one of the other girls that was hurt. Wish me luck girls & hope you all had a good weekend.

Oh, my dear Mel, I can't believe this it happens to you! Do they want to fire you bc of your hurt shoulder? I'm so sorry you also have this kind of troubles as it's not enough you already have a lot of problems bc of your shoulder! Of course we're here for you, we keep our fingers crossed for you and wish you good luck!
    Love you Mel!

HAPPY 8 MONTHS ANNIVERSARY, my friends!!!

  22. @Ekaterina

I am really glad to hear that you were not concerned about the earthquake directly, Ekaterina.

It is amazing for me, that you love your book so much. Yes, you obviously bought an interesting book, because it is not only about the WWII and you learn also something about the Eidgenossenschaft.

I believe it is quite interesting and entertaining to read something about the beginning of the Eidgenossenschaft. The "former" Swiss had always to defend themselves against the Habsburger and others, because the wanted a lot of tax (in form of food, etc.). They had also at that time to stay together, make good contracts with other neighbours and had to be very diplomatic to survive.

You know, Switzerland was a rather poor country, especially int the mountains and on the countryside they had often not enough to eat. The big change came around 1900 when the first English touristst arrived. They were very fond of the mountains and wanted to be guided by Swiss mountaineeres to the mountains and glaciers. Also first kind of skiing started. Women in their long clothes and with big hats on their heads!! Very funny!

Another big change in Switzerland, especially for Zurich came with the railways. You know already the Zurich Main station Ekaterina. Maybe you saw outside of it the huge fountain with an impressive man on the top. His name is Alfred Escher, a very multi-talented man, with a strong character, not so charming like General Guisan, but he had big visions. He brougth us the railways, built the tunnel Gotthard which leads to Italy, was the founder of the first big bank Credit Suisse, and he was the founder of the Polytechnicum. He was also a politician and a very, very busy man, slept only 4 hour in the night, and was not only surrounded by "lovers"!

I wish you also sincerely a nice Pre-Christmas with a lot of candles and a cosy and relaxing time.

    @Dana

I love to hear from you about the Romanian traditions, they are absolutely unknown to me.

Especially the one with the garlic around the windows, is nice, so you are really from the land with the vampires!

The one with the wheat in the little pots I love very much too. I think it is so important to have these traditions.

I prefer also to keep it simple at Christmas time, I like candles and I have always a "Weihnachtsstern", that is a mexicain plant with big red leaves. I am sure, you know it too.
Many neighbours have a lot of these little lights on their balconies, it has become a real contest. Nice to look at in a way, but I think it is now enough illumination, I do not really think I will have it on my balcony.

    @Corinna

You are our "Lucky child" in German Glückskind!! I am very keen to your comments about your trip and the pics as well.

    @Mel

Very said, to hear from you that you have so much troubles. I comes often hand in hand, troubles with the health and then you get troubles at work. Difficult to say something intelligent, but I cross my fingers for you that it comes better for you soon.

Do not forget, everything in life leads you to something. Changes can also be the door to something new, and maybe much more positive for you.

Stay positve, as good as you can, believe in yourselve and try to do everything by yourself to get the sholder better. It is not forbidden, to read some books about rheumatism. Please, please Mel go to the libary and inform yourself.

In Switzerland, I would take you to the Rheuma Liga, they are very specialised for this kind of problems. But they have strict rules. Not only pain killers, different nourriture and adequate moving, etc. as I tried to explain to you many weeks ago.

Good Luck, Mel!! Do not give up. Never!

I'm sure every ppl has beautiful traditions, we have a lot, some of them very different from a region to another.
That mexican plant is called Poinsetia or Christmas' flower. I have two, one red and one pink and as you said they are nice. Do you that plant is poisonous? You have to wash your hands very well after you touch it.

Thanks for so many interesting things I've learned from you about your country! I confess I know so less about Switzerland!

    Have a pleasant day! Hugs!

  25. HAPPY DECEMBER!!!

How many months is this? 8??? Wow! :D

    And HAPPY SNOW!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hello Everyone! It's snowing here for the first time this winter. I think ALS is getting a lot of snow.

@Nicole Nice to see you again dude! How goes school? Is it snowing there? Do you have the proper head gear?

@Dana Hi! Sis, Happy National Day. What do you do to celebrate? We decorate a lot with The Poinsettia plant too. I don't think you have to wash your hands, it is only poisonous if you eat it. They warn children and dogs/pets not to eat it. I would put a bowl of wheat out if you tell me what to do? Say hi! to your Dad for me...

@Ekaterina I'm glad you didn't have to throw out the cabbage and that it tasted good! I enjoyed the whole story of the process. I would love to invite you to my Mom's second wedding. We might ask you to play the Wagner's Bridal Chorus or wedding march. I hope you will dance the penguin at the reception. Although we call it the Bunny Hop. I wish!

@Corinna What is it your Dad calls you? Your pet name that starts with an M?

@Mel I wonder if they are trying to get your workman's comp costs off their books and that's why they're trying to "push you out." It probably has more to do with their expenses than your performance at your job. But it still hurts your feelings. I know. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Giffy
Hello Sis! Thank you so much! We had a military parade in Bucharest in the morning-I watched on tv! LOL But I don't celebrate in some special way bc here's cold and it rains since last night. More than this I don't feel quite well so I spend all my day at home! LOL
I know Poinsettia has a poisonous milky sap and you have not touch your eyes area after you touched the plant!
About the wheat is very simple, you just have to put in a small bowl a layer about 2-3 cm of wheat and pour water enough to cover it. Then keep the bowl on the ledge in your kitchen, on light and wet from time to time, when you think that has not enough water. But it's better if the temperature is not so high, bc it grows too fast and it may wither till Christmas.
Thanks, I'm sure my dad will appreciate! I'll make him smile when I'll tell him I have a bride for him! Haha! I hope that Peter (or Pete, I don't remember very well, LOL) has nothing against this wedding! Haha!
All my best regards to your mom, too!
I like your idea, to ask nicely Ekaterina to play at the wedding! It would be an honor!

Have a pleasant day, my dear Sis! Hugs and kisses!
