Kjetil: On the count of three your gonna give me my bib.
No sir I don't want any candy.
Doesn't this thing go any faster?
Which gates do I hit?
This is the longest line for hot chocolate that I have ever been in!
That was the funniest joke I have ever heard!
Yup my face is still there.
Gotta get in the zone.
Anybody else wanna ski?
Stop looking at my butt.

Thanks, corinna ! so many precious pics !

btw, I have a question, corinna. ALS made me remember it. When we drove in the road, Bundes-strasse possobly, near bamberg, a small black animal suddenly passed across about 5 meters ahead. We didn't hit it, so please do not worry ... :-) , and I asked my friend what it was. She said it was a squirrel. I was surprised with it, because I've thought the all squirrel are in brown colour. She said the squirrel in the south Germany is in black. and she added " I think so. "

Is it so ? corinna ? Anyhow that black one looked very nice !

Hope you have an exciting weekend, corinna !

I'm preparing for sarmale. The first stage is the whole pickled cabbage. I bought a looks-good one for it today. The dried dill and the coarse salt and the container are all ready now. I think I start it tomorrow evening, because I have enough time. Then, as for the place where I let it sleep when I finish it, first I thought the entrance would be the best, but considering the fermentation, the temperature there might be a bit cold. It is about 15C - 18C and it depends on the day, but there is not up & down. Meanwhile the temperature in the living room is warmer of around 23C - 25C. dana, which place do you think you recommend me ? Although it is about the first stage and it has not started yet, I've already thought about the second stage. I visited 3 meat shops and checked the meat. As you advise me, I'm going to use the sunflower oil, instead of lard, so I think I'll buy the meat 60%fatty + 40% not fatty. What do you think about this ratio ?

I really enjoy challenging sarmale, dana.

Have a pleasant weekend, dana !

  6. @Corinna & Mel Thank you a lot girls! You did a great job with this pics and comments! LOL

    @Ekaterina
I think it's better to keep the jar with the cabbage on the living room bc it's warmer and it will be ready sooner! But don't fill the jar to the brim, let some space to ferment! And cover it to not disperse the smell in the room! LOL
About the meat, you may buy half pork and half beef! But if you like just pork you can buy as you said: 60%fatty and 40%not fatty! Lard gives a good taste but I like to use sunflower oil and just 2-3 tbls of lard! If you use bacon (if I'm not wrong they use bacon in that recipe!)don't use lard, to not make them too greasy! Some people like them greasy, but I don't!
    I wish you success!
Oh, but don't you can find a Romanian restaurant to but pickled cabbage from there? I think it's easier and you don't have to wait so many days!

Have a nice weekend, I mean Sunday bc it's already Saturday night for you!LOL So good night and sweet dreams! Hugs!

Thanks for your kind advices, dana ! very helpful. I'll do so.
I once visited the Rumanian restaurant in Tokyo about 10 years ago, but it is closed now. That time, my friend proposed to have a gathering and it happened to be taken place in that restaurant. I don't remember what I ate there, because I'm always busy talking at this kind of the gathering. And as you say, looking for another Rumanian restaurant in Tokyo might be possible, but I'm not sure they sell me the whole pickled cabbage. So it seems it easier for me to make it by myself. It's actually very fun ! Anyhow I try it !

    Good night, dana.

    @corinna.
I tried all the 3 links, but in vain, to my regret. My pc sometimes does good job, but often does not work well. But I thank you for your co-operation, corinna ! I always think about calling the technical service, but they don't work until late. But I really like to connect with much more site, so I call it when I have a time.

    Good night, corinna !

  9. Hi animal farm & kitchen company girls! Love you, girls!

Here something different. The new Jon Olsson video. I think it is worth to invest the 20 minutes. Different parts are awesome, love especially the surfing part, as I understand in the Lofoten area.

They tell us something about Leif's accident as he has broken his hand.

Also I think it is nice how Jon is caring about his younger 15 year old collegue.

    Have a nice evening/afternoon!

I don't know how good it is but you may try!

    Good night, Ekaterina!

@Corinna there are two squirrels like this:

    http://www.util21.ro/relaxare/poze-animale/poze-16-animale-veverite-5.htm

that visit my yard almost every day! But one is reddish-brown and the other is black!! I like to watch them jumping in my fir tree! LOL

    Have a great dancing evening!

  11. @Ekaterina, Dana & Corinna I like Squirrels. They are cute & make cute little squeaking noises. We have brown, red, white, black & grey squirrels in the USA.

So I got up this morning & there was snow all over the place! It melted way too fast for me, but that's the way of wet snow.

I've just finished the first stage. I think it went well except one thing which the whole cabbage floated more than I expected, and I struggled it. But it is finally OK.
    When I find someone drowning, I think I throw a cabbage if I have it at that moment ! ... :-))) ...

Thanks for the nice link !

    @corinna,@dana,@Mel.
The animal I saw does not look like Marten nor Marder. I think it was Einchhoernchen, a black one. The pic on the right in the middle row by dana's link may be the one. Its actual colour was blacker.

Yes, the squirrel is really cute. But reading your comments, I knew I'm from the squirrel-poor country. This lovely animal is only inside the picutured book to me. I think I can meet them in the mountains, but I think we have only brown one. The white one must be so beautiful !

The kitchen company is finished today, but the animal farm, still open !

I think I watched Jon's video, but it seems it was some weeks ago. It is a very good video, full of the information about what & where they were doing . I always see Leif's blog very carefully, because it suddenly jumps into Jon's ! In fact, I see Leif's only sometimes when Aksel does not update ALS.

btw, Nicoletta, I had a buffet dinner in the hotel restaurant on Friday and there was the chocolate fondu at the dessert corner. And the chocolate fondu there was a bit different from the image. There was no fondu pan, but there was the chocolate fountain as high as more than 1 meter. It was so exciting !

  17. Hello girls!
Hope everyone is fine and enjoys this beautiful Sunday! At least here is a sunny and very warm day, 24*C!!! In November!!! Unbelievable!

@Nicole Hope you have had an amazing weekend too! Do you have field hockey training today?

@Ekaterina Haha! I know the cabbage floats, that's why I told you to put some sticks over it, to make it stay under the liquid! Yes, you can use the cabbage as life buoy! LOL
I found this link for you:

    http://blog.adrian.mihalcioiu.ro/2009/restaurant-romania-in-tokyo.html

I don't know how good it is but you can try!

@Nicoletta Jon has many interesting and funny videos!
Oh, I like to join Ekaterina in her gastronomic adventure! LOL

    We love you too!

  18. @dana.
Thanks for the link, dana ! yes, I checked it. In case I fail to make my sarmale, I'll go to that retaurant and spy it ! ... ;-))) Well I'm interested in visiting there. According to comments, it is much better than that I once visited. One comment reffered it. It was located in Ginza which is only 15 minutes by U Bahn from my house. The restaurant I knew from the link by you is about 30 - 40 minutes by 2 trains from my house ( Tokyo is just huge, )but it is easy to go there for me.

Off course I think I understood what you kindly told me about the float, and I was ready to put some weight, but it floated really more than expected ! Anyhow I let it stay under the brine with some dried dill.

btw, dana, really ? 24C there in Romania ? ( which is correct, Rumania or Romania ? I sometimes wonder about it ) It is warmer than here in Tokyo.

Have a great new week, dana ! and please send our regards from my baby sister & me to your Einchhoernchen jumping in your fir trees !
    Good night !

  19. @Ekaterina
You're welcome my dear! I know Tokyo is huge but I saw they have the address there, so I imagined is easy for you to find the place!

Excellent! You used dry dill to keep the cabbage under the brine! Good job!
We, the Romanians, eat a lot of pickled cabbage during the winter so we buy 100 kg or more for pickling!!! LOL

Correct is ROMANIA- it comes from the Roman Empire that has conquered ancient Dacia led by the King Decebal! LOL But I think some ppl say also Rumania, it depends of the country they come from.

Yes, Ekaterina, it has been very warm these days here, something unusual for November! The years ago we had snow in this period of the year!

Haha! You're so sweet! Thanks, I'll send your regards to those two squirrels jumping in my fir tree! Say Hello to your little sister Ekaterina from my dogs, Mishu & Zorro! But it's better for her to keep the distance, my "boys" can be rude and mean! LOL

Wish you a pleasant and happy new week too! I know you're sleeping right now, so good night and sweet dreams, Ekaterina! Hugs!

  20. Hi Ekaterina & Dana

    @Ekaterina

Congrats to your Romanian speciality sarmale with the cabbage. You do not give up very quickly, Ekaterina? I am deeply admireing your persistence.

How nice, you have had such a huge chocolate fountain integrated at the desert bufett. I saw just once a mini exemplar in a department store. The shop assistant said to me that is "the no. 1" in Switzerland at the moment. I think it looks nice, because chocolate is cirulating all the time. Very funny!

    @Dana / Ekaterina

Yes, Jon makes quite a lot of videos and he is blogging all the time. I think he is a quite agreable person that lives a very busy lifestyle.

The last video was for beeing correct a TV show (first episode) presented on Sweden's TV. He must be really popular in Sweden. Maybe like Aksel in Norway, I am not sure, but I presume.

You have still 24 degrees Dana? That is great, our Spring in November is finished now, and we have only around 9 degrees and it is rainy and really unfriendly.

So I watched a part of the tennis match Feder/Djokovic and then I decided to go to the fitness center doing my workout.
I like to do it because afterwards I feel great. I have now started to train regularly again because with my cold I couldn't go.

    @Dana

The video with the little bear was very cute. But you are right, the mama bear could be a little problem.

Have a good start into the new week and a nice evening and/or nice dreams!

  21. @Nicoletta Ekaterina is very tenacious, she wants to eat sarmale made by herself! LOL No matter how long she has to wait for this! I admire her too!

Oh, why do you do this to me, why do you talk about chocolate? I'm drooling! Haha!

Yes, it's warm here, I wore a short-sleeved shirt today and my window was open the whole day! I don't know how long will last this sunny weather but I like it!

You're right, Jon is a very nice and open person! And I like how he behaves with his girlfriend, I think they have a beautiful relationship!

Wish you a pleasant evening, a good night and nice dreams about anything you want! Hugs!

  22. Hi Dana

Yes, a chocolate fountain at my home would be my "sinking" too ... you understand?

And Jon is really nice with his girlfriend even if they don't meet very often. But he mentions her always in a lovely way, speaks about the Lady, little Olive, etc. I love that too.
He goes also on a shopping tour with her and they buy shoes, etc. He loves and says it, when she gets dressed up. Nice couple indeed.

Enjoy the sunny weather in Rumania while I have to take my umbrella as well as the winter coat! LOL

    See you, Dana!

  23. Hello Ladies!!! I hope you had an amazing weekend! :D

@Dana I actually had a field hockey tournament yesterday! 3 hours in the car to drive to Kentucky, and we played two full games (one hour each)! It was pretty dreadful though! They kept pulling so many illegal moves!! And the ref didn't call anything! ...you know how I get with refs! LOL So I have tons of bruises and I'm sore...bad thing about playing defense! LOL But it was still great to be able to play, even if our safety was in danger! LOL

    How was everyone's weekends??? :D

Oh, and speaking of chocolate, I'm eating nutella right now! :D yum

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Nicole You too, Brutus? Shame on you! LOL
You know what I'm talking about, don't you? Nutella!!! I think I'm looking like this baby on the commercial:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH5yRlwntbE&feature=related

Poor you, my dear Young'un! I don't even want to imagine your bruises! See, if you have chosen field hockey instead rowing? LOL But as long as you are happy to play, I'm happy for you too!

Oho, I know how you get with the "blind" refs!! I remember soccer WC this summer! lmao

@Nicoletta today it was cloudy but still warm, about 22*C! Though I think the weather will change here too, they said it will rain next days!
Yes, you're right, I saw Jon and his beautiful Olivia are so happy together, they're a beautiful couple!

I'm just back home from the concert ( The classical ), tommorow and the day after tommorow evenings I'll go to the concerts by Wiener Philharmoniker. They are making the tour in Japan now.

So, coming back home, I checked my cabbage. It is doing well. I like and enjoy the process of my first experience !

During winter in Romania, more than 100kg of cabbage , in other way of speak, more than Aksel of cabbage are eaten in one family !? In spring you all become the beautiful betterflies, I think...and I think that's why Romanians are very pretty. So, I like to dedicate my time to cabbage with hope !!!

Nicoletta, 9C sounds very cold and please take good care of you in order to shutdown of the comebaks of the cold !

dana, my baby sister are not used to meet the dogs, because she lives only inside the house. So it could be her new experience to make the nose greetings to Zorro & Mishu. But you're right, dana. Your boys might behave dynamic toward mine. ... Then, we start some gentle conversation between mothers at kindergarten !

Have a beautiful evening ! Good night !

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Ekaterina Wiener Philharmoniker, what a delight for you!!!

Haha! An Aksel of cabbage, I've never thought this way!
Thanks, you're so kind but I don't think Romanians are prettier than other people!
Especially bc we eat more cabbage during the winter than the others! LOL
I forgot to tell you that your cabbage will be ready for sarmale when it will not floating anymore! When it starts to dive is almost ready!

Sorry, but I have to tell you my dogs hate cats, so I think this meeting is Mission Impossible (without Tom Cruise)! LOL

Good night my dear Ekaterina! Enjoy next days of concert! Hugs!
