Outside Magazine

I finally found a copy!!! First I went to an Gander Mountain because I figured they would have it. Nope. :-( That was Tuesday. Yesterday I had some time to kill while I waited for my friend Jen to come up. So I went into Books A Million & was looking at the books. I decided to go look at the magazines & finally found it! I almost squealed like a little girl. LOL

    Thank you ladies ! I'm so much encouraged by your warm words !
    I'm very anxious, as a matter of fact. I really didn't expect what I've faced with for some months.

    1.) My weight is 46 kg and 1,200 cc donation of blood by myself is needed. 300 cc at one time once a week which starts on Monday 27th. I still cannot imagine if it's possible. But Dr. Shiba decided my schedule of the surgery and I think he did and does it, bc he thinks it's possible.

    2.) I also cannot imagine I take the surgery of around 7 hours next month. Dr. Shiba says the Skoliosis of my backbones can be improved by the surgery. He also says it is the best way.

    3.) I can definitely imagine the pain after the surgery.

    4.) The surgery can improve the Skoliosis, and it's the best and the only way. Dr. Shiba and I agree with this. But my back has to lose the flexibility after the surgery, bc my backbones are fixed by the titanium. I have to get used to my " new " backbones. I actually cannot imagine how I feel it.

    5.) I have to wear the medical corset for 3 months after the surgery. I also cannot imagine the life with the medical corset, though it's only for 3 months.

    I think 4.) sounds the worst of all. Dr. Shiba says I can live the normal life even after the surgery. It's still hard to believe for me.

    I know it's just nonsense to worry about these too much.

    The good thing is Dr. Shiba says there is no trouble for me to take a flight to Germany in August.

    I'll report you one step by one step.

    Hope you enjoy the lovely Sunday ! LOVE !

  7. @ekaterina how many backbones are going to be fixed by the titanium?
    if only 2-3 backbones will be fixed you will don´t feel this even, as far as i know 5-8 fixed backbones isn´t so bad and you don´t feel this!
    a mom of a friend of mine had fixed 5 backbones and she has no problems with her flexibility.
    bc when one part is fixed the other parts under and over it will make the movement!

    Thank you for your detailed report, Ekaterina. Now we know more what is happening to you in the next months.

    One question turns always in my head, did you have back pain earlier, Ekaterina??

    Or did you just notice a kind of "cosmetic" problem before, I mean that your body was not so straight. Perhaps you noticed it, because one leg of the trosers or one sleeve was always longer, etc.

    The whole story is so difficult for me to understand. From nearly nothing you go to a 7 hour surgery. Don't understand me wrong, but there was absolutely no "soft solution" according Dr. Shiba, like you explained?

    @Ekaterina
    @Corinna
    I feel better when I read the lines of Corinna. Hopefully you feel afterwards the way like Corinna's very positive information.

    Over night it came to my mind, obviously is the surgery for the stabilisation of your backbone. Or does Dr. Shiba make it more straight? Do you need this kind of correction, Ekaterina?

  13. Wish you a happy Sunday!

    I wonder what Aksel achieves today. He is still on the run and was also yesterday under the Top ten.

    Our commentator mentionned, despite of not so many lucky moments during this year, Aksel is a great fighter and he prepares intensively for every race. I think we should appreciate his will, and one day he will be back on the podiums, I am so sure.

    Go Aksel, go!

    @corinna
    @Nicoletta

    I'm so pleased that you think of me. As I said in my last comment, I'm very encouraged.

    Dr. Shiba has not informed me how many of my backbone will be fixed by the titanium. The only thing I know at the present is that my lower backbones look like " C " shape. So one of my kidney is almost pushed by my lower backbones. I didn't notice it until I watched MRI with Dr. Shiba. The Skoliosis is so serious and it's impossible to make it correct without the surgery, he says. So it's not the surgery for the stabilization of my backbones, but the surgery to make them straight as possible as the doctors can.

    I've been healthy so far and I feel healthy even now. In fact I don't feel any bad things inside my body. So I was so surprised to know what is going on about my backbones.

    As for the cosmetic problem, I didn't care about it so much, bc I think the human body is not 100 % symmetrical. I remember once I was told by the Hari therapist about my backbones problem when I accompanied with my mom while I was a kid. But nobody took it seriously, but I was just recommended to have a good posture and I've done it.

    I didn't feel any pain, and I don't have any pain even now. But I feel something is wrong with my lower body, especially after I watched my X ray photo and MRI.

    Nicolettchen is quite right. From nearly nothing, I go to a 7-hour surgery in March. Dr. Shiba knows my body much better than me, I think.

    In March 5th, I have an appointment with Dr. Shiba after my 2nd blood donation. I think I'll be informed more about the surgery by him.
    Anyhow tomorrow is my 1st blood donation of 300 cc. I think it'll be OK, bc it's the first one. According to the staff of the blood center of TWMU, I may feel tired after the 3rd and the 4th.

    Again, I really thank you for thinking about my trouble !

    btw, Aksel had the great in the 1st run, but I think he could not control his mind in the 2nd run. It's not like " the former " Aksel. Of course I didn't watch the race, so there might be another reason for DNF.

    Hope you have a nice new week !
    Kisses & Hugs ! LOVE !

    it seemed like aksel didn´t saw a wave and then his ski get out of control and he mades a salto forward and was landing on shoulder and head/helmet, his googles was pushed off of his helmet and he was real dizzy after it! i don´t know if he had something on his forehead, bc he was always took his hand to this!

    Very much moved about the tragic of your story, Ekaterina!

    My poor attention is the minimum that I can give to you in this situation!

    Perhaps you could ask Dr. Shiba if after the surgery you can improve your agility with kind of exercise!

    Eventually it is important to train the rest of your back bones and muscles to be strong enough to keep up your good mobility! But first the surgery!

    Keep up the faith, Ekaterina! Everything will be fine!

    @Ekaterina
    All my thoughts were about the training after your rehabilitation, during the next years to come. My mother had also very strong back pains and they made some parts stiff. I was a very young child and I do not so much remember.

    The only thing I know, years later a chiropractor was taking care of her because she could hardly move her arms. He said it was wrong to do as less she could, in the contrary moving and training to strenght the muscles is so important.

    I remember my mother had a lot of pain and she told me once she had a corset with iron parts. This was the treatment in the last century!

    Naturally you need a guide for all the exercise. Perhaps you need also a weekly massage from a specialist.

    Look good to you, Ekaterina!

    @Nicoletta

    Thanks for the link of the video of Aksel's crash. It looks the bad crash for me, but Aksel updated the blog with the pic, so I think he's almost fine now !

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Nicoletta

    You're right, Nicolettchen. The practical training is needed.
    My body is flexible and the backbone condition is flexible, too. That's why Dr. Shiba decided the 7-hour surgery for me, bc my backbones can be corrected. Dr. Shiba and I have already started talking about the muscle training after the surgery. Maybe I visit the gym. The problem in Japan is there are not so many physiotherapists, and they are always demanded by the patients after the stroke of the brain problems. I think I need corinna. ... ;-)))

    I feel so sorry that your mom had the hard time, dear Nicoletta. The medical technique develops and many new " facts " are introduced. For example, in Japan a diabetic was instructed not to move so much in former times, but it's different now. A diabetic is recommended to walk and do some exercise.

    btw, I donated 300cc my own blood this morning. I was recommended to have more than 300cc something to drink, so I did so just after the donation during " the stop bleeding " time.
    I didn't feel bad at all, and felt fine, and feel fine now.

    Winter comes back in Tokyo again. We know spring is just around the corner, so it'll be the last winter.

    Thank you again, dear Nicoletta for thinking about my problem together with me !

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Ekaterina I hope the surgery goes well. 7 hours seems like a long time. I'm surprised they didn't find your scoliosis before. I know in the US they check us during physicals & at school every year while we are growing up. I don't know if they do it else where, but the earlier you catch it the likelihood of having surgery is very slim.

    @Nicoletta Watched the video...I can't imagine the kind of pain he must be in.

    We had a shooting in Chardon, OH this morning. They have the gun man in custody & one student has died & another is in critical condition. There's no word of why he did it & if the victims where just random or if he had picked them out before. This world is going to hell in a hand basket.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @nicoletta i can´t watch the video of the crash!

    @ekaterina should i come over to japan for an physiotherapist treatment!
    something i really don´t know is why in japan the physiotherapist isn´t so popular and that isn´t practice so much like here in germany

    scroll a bit down and there you find a part about the wendelstein church!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Mel

    Thank you, dear Mel ! 7 hours means " from Tokyo to possibly Moscow " by the flight for me. ... ;-)))

    I understand why you're surprised. Japan is a strange country in many fields.
    In medical field, we have the high level of know-how, but they are not always connecting to the patient or the potential patient, due to the old system of the health & medical administration. The old system doesn't match with our life.
    As for the scoliosis, the administration made the rule to check children's body frame very late and the rule was not at all strong. It first started in 1980's, but it was taken not seriously by the school doctors who were not familiar with the orthopedist.
    Furthermore, in Japan, the relationship between the orthopedist and the osteopath is too weak to work together for the patients. It is due to the Japanese education system of the medical school and also due to the complicated Japanese medical law.

    And generally speaking, the family doctors in Japan are only interested in the blood information, the blood pressure, the X-ray of the lungs, and the electrocardiogram. Unless we complain of the pain of some part of the body, they would not introduce us to the orthopedist. I know my family doctor knew that I have the skoliosis, bc he can see it in the X-ray of the lungs, but he has never taken it seriously. For him, I have been only one of the very healthy girls. If I had the opportunity to visit the big hospital like TWMU in the past, I think the doctors there could find the skoliosis and took some action for me. But I've been so healthy and had no opportunity to visit it.
    ( Big Sigh .... )

    @corinna
    Thanks for the link, I know it ! But it was closed and we were only allowed to watch it from the outside window. It was a bit dark, and I could not look it well.

    The reason that we have less physiotherapist in Japan is also due to the medical system and law in Japan. I think the physiotherapist is very helpful for the many and various patients. But we have less. So, even if the patients of the brain stroke need the treatment by the physio, they cannot take it enough. The possibility of the recovery often has to be closed by our poor administration. The exception is in case the patient is the super rich or the super famous figure. ...

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Corinna
    You can watch the fall of Aksel on Aksel's FB page. The link was integrated in a title. It was approx. the third last entry of him.

    @Mel
    Dangerous things happen at your school in Ohio! Hope sinerely this was the last time!

    @Ekaterina
    Glad your first blood donation went so smooth! You seem to be the prototype of a wonderful patient, Ekaterina.

    @Ekaterina
    @Corinna

    Another storry of my mothers life came to my mind. She had first a doctor which was treating her very wrong, with kind of streching bed and also with puting weights to strechen her, then he mad kind of Chiropratctic too, but he had no serious education. So my mother got into a terrible state, had pain all the day long, could hardly walk.

    So she had finally the chance to find an excellent Chiropractor. Only beeing in the hands of this Chiropractor which had a very good education, partly educated in the States, with the necessary diploma, she recovered step by step. Without this change of doctor, she would have finished in a wheel chair, the new doctor attested to her.

    So long story short, it is real important to follow the right treatment, it has to be more soft and not radical.

    I am quite sure it is also very important to you, because you my dear Ekaterina are a fragile person, please do look around in time for an appropriate care afterwards.

    Perhaps you find something interesting when you "google" it.
    I presume a medical massage would also be nice. Soft gymnastique too.

    What do you think Ekaterina and Corinna??

    @All Ladies
    Wish you all a happy day!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Nicoletta

    The good treatment is the best, of course, but I see not all patient can reach it, bc we can see it right or wrong after we try it. I feel sorry for your mom's case, but I'm really relieved to know she met the best treatment for her at last after the hard time.

    I suppose the level of the present medical standard of Japanese orthopedics & osteopathy is almost the same as your mom's time. But I think TWMU belongs to the top level as long as I know, so I think I'm a rather lucky among Japanese, at least I hope so.

    Step by step is my recent situation like the blood donation, and I'll meet the another new situation which I've never met after the surgery. Dr. Shiba and I talk about the aftermath, bc it's very important as you indicate, dear Nicoletta. I'll do my best step by step as the prototype. ... ;-)))

    Again, thank you Nicolettchen for sharing my problem with me !

    It snowed in Tokyo today. It's the second snow here in this winter. So, it was brrrr today, from -1℃ to +4℃. I guess it is the last cold day in this season. After my 2nd donation on next Monday, the 5th, I have an appointment with the professor of anesthesiology of TWMU, and then an appointment with Dr.Shiba.

    I only think about my life at home after the surgery and stay in the hospital. I know I'll put on the medical corset for 3 months and I don't think it is comfortable, but I think I advance to the better health condition. My baby sis needs the healthier elder sis.

    I watched the news in the TV reporting the tornadoes in the US, the one in Ohio. Are you OK ? Mel ?

    The human life is always with the natural disaster. As we have the frequent big earthquakes which sometimes produce the giant tsunami, and as we have the seasonal typhoon in Japan, you have the frequent tornadoes and the seasonal hurricane in the US. I hope the damage caused by the tornadoes this time will be as small as possible.
